Thailand Great Tours

Hi, need help planning a two week trip in Thailand.?
I’ve done some research and it appears that a popular itinerary is Bangkok – 3 days, Ching Rai – 2 days, Ching Mai – 3 days, & Phuket – 5 days.
Question #1 – I believe 5 days is too much in Phuket…is there another destination we could visit, that is a must see. Would Phi Phi island be a nice addition to the itinerary?
Question #2 – We have researched several tour companies and have been quoted pretty high prices…..close to US$4,000 per person. My wife and I like luxury hotels but US$8,000 for tours and accomodations seem steep…I thought Thailand was supposed to be pretty cheap?? Do I need to book with a tour company or is it easy enough to arrange tours locally?? Any company suggestions would be appreciated.
Question #3 We are thinking of going May-June and heard it can be pretty hot!! Is this not a great time to visit Thailand?
Thanks for any suggestions/recommendations.
#1. Phi Phi is beautiful but it’s pretty crowded with tourist (as is Phuket) but it might make a nice addition to your trip.
If you want something a little more mellow you could try Hua Hin beach. It’s about 3 hours south of Bangkok by bus or train. Until recently it was more of a Thai getaway but Farang have started visiting there.
#2. $4,000 per person?! If my math is right that’s more than $600 a day. That’s insane unless you guys travel like movie stars.
Thailand is cheap, okay a little more if you want luxury hotels but still…
The two of you should be able to find some pretty nice resorts for $200/night for both of you.

If I were you I’d check online for accommodations and arrange tours locally which is very easy to do. You’ll save a lot of money that way.
#3. Yes, that’s a hot time in Thailand but except for Nov-Jan (high season) Thailand is always hot and very humid. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai (especially Chiang Rai) will be a bit cooler than Bangkok.
The beach is a nice way to beat the heat. And luckily most places you go and Taxis have very good air-con. When you do find yourself doing activities in the heat just be sure to drink plenty of water. It’s easy to underestimate just how much sweating one does on a hot humid Thailand day.
